We can't stop singing the praises of Green Bean Books in Portland, Oregon. It's a wonderful children's bookstore — and even though it occupies a relatively small space, it feels like you could be lost for days in there.
Last Saturday, writer Chris A. Bolton read from SMASH: TRIAL BY FIRE for a bunch of excited kids and eager parents.
Kyle couldn't be there to read with him, so Chris's friend (and longtime Smash fan) Craig Fitzpatrick stepped in to provide voices for the Magus, Gareth, and other characters.
Ordinarily, Kyle and Chris use a laptop to project individual panels onto a screen for their live readings. But since Green Bean has a simple outdoor setup, the audience had their own books to read along with Chris and Craig. Well, not everyone got her own book...
But they all managed to find a way to share!
Writer Chris A. Bolton will read from SMASH: TRIAL BY FIRE this Saturday at the magnificent Green Bean Books in Portland, Oregon!
It's part of Green Bean's epic Superhero Weekend. The reading starts Saturday at 2 p.m., but you won't want to miss out on any of the festivities all weekend-long:
Sunday is Superhero Day! The line-up of events is SUPER — with make-your-own mask and cape activities, a Kryptonite scavenger hunt, and plenty of superhero stories to share! It's only $10 per child to participate. Register now by calling 503-954-2354.
Green Bean Books is an amazing bookstore! One glance inside means instant love. If you live in Portland and you have kids, you owe it to yourself — and your kids! — to check it out.
Poor John Carter got a bum deal from Hollywood. (Or from the moviegoing audience, depending on how much you liked Disney's John Carter movie.) But we still love Edgar Rice Burroughs's classic adventure novels — and here is Kyle's tribute to the Warlord of Mars. (Click the image for a bigger version.)

By now we've all heard the sad news that Harrison Ford will be out of action for several weeks after his ankle was injured on the set of the new Star Wars film. Kyle and I are huuuuuuge fans of Ghostbusters, the supernatural comedy starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis that hit movie theaters 30 years ago this June. Sigh... time flies so quickly. In honor of Ghostbusters turning 30, here is SMASH artist Kyle Bolton's take on Peter Venkman (Bill Murray): "Come in, Ray..."
